Mr. Saleh Forouhari

PhD Student

Saleh Forouhari obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees in electrical and electronics engineering from Yazd University, Iran, and Curtin University, WA, respectively. Before joining the FBICRC program to pursue his PhD degree at the University of Western Australia, he worked in power and energy consultancies as a power system engineer between 2017 and 2022. His research interests are in power system operation, power electronics, control theory and microgrids. He is pursuing his PhD degree at the UWA, with focus on integration of battery energy storage systems in microgrids.

Mr. Fubing Jin

PhD Student

Fubing Jin completed his Master of Professional Engineering, specialising in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with distinction in 2021 at the University of Western Australia. Prior to that, he graduated with Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering from Southwest University, Chongqing in 2019. Currently, he is pursing his PhD degree at the University of Western Australia, and he intends to focus on his interests which include power electronics, control algorithm and artificial intelligence.

Mr. Ran Li

PhD Student

Ran Li graduated with high distinction from his Master’s of Professional Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) UWA program in December 2021. Ran started his PhD at UWA in March 2022, focussing on highly reliable converter designs and controls for mine site microgrids. Ran’s expertise includes the design of permanent magnet synchronous motors and reluctance synchronous motors, the design of power DC-DC converters, and artificial intelligence-based control engineering.

Zifan Lin received the Bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from University of Western Australia in 2017 and Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Western Australia in 2019. Mr. Yulin Liu

Yulin Liu completed his Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering from Southwest University, Chongqing, China, in 2018. He completed his Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2020. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Western Australia. His research interests are in model predictive control of microgrids and power flow analysis.

Tianhao(Steward) Qie received his Mater 's Degree in Master of Professional Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) at the University of Western Australia, Perth in 2021 and Bachelor’s Degree in Automation Engineering from Southwest University, Chongqing in 2020. Currently, he is pursing his PhD degree at the University of Western Australia, specializing in Electrical and Electronics. His research interests are advanced control algorithms, power electronics and microgrids.

Mr. Osaka Rubasinghe

Osaka received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Curtin University, Australia in 2019. After graduating he was working in the Mining, Oil & Gas Industry for couple of years as an Electrical Engineer. He is currently pursuing his PhD degree at the University of Western Australia. His research interests are in renewable energy, power systems and transmission and distribution networks.

Mrs. Geethu AsokKumar Seena

PhD student

Geethu Asokkumar Seena received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Kerala University in 2011 and Master’s degree in Power Electronics from Amritha Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India in 2014. She started her career as an Electrical Engineer at STRANDS ENERGY PVT Ltd, India during 2014 – 2016 and then worked as Electrical Engineer at Kerala State Electricity Board during 2016-2017. She is currently pursuing Ph.D at University of Western Australia. Her research interests include power electronics, BESS, power system stability and microgrid.

Tingze Zhang, received the Bachelor degree in Communication Engineering from the University of Dalian Polytechnic, China, in 2017. Hadi Ariakia, member of IEEE, obtained his Master's Degree of engineering from University of Western Australia in 2010 and in 2015, he became a Ph.D. candidate. His research interests are in power systems, complex systems modelling, big data analysis, dynamic databases and machine learning.

Dr. Tat Kei Chau

Former PhD Student and Research Fellow

Tat Kei Chau received the BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Communication Engineering with first-class honours from the City University of Hong Kong in 2010 and Master’s degree of electrical and electronic engineering with distinction from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2014. He received his Ph.D. degree at UWA in 2019. His research interests are in renewable energy, power system analysis and control, mathematical modelling of dynamical systems, state observers and dynamic state estimation.

Dr. Kianoush Emami obtained his bachelor and master of science in electrical engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran in 1999 and 2002 respectively. Between 2002 and 2006 he worked in oil and gas industry as a control engineer and also as a project engineer. From 2006 to 2010 he joined Imamreza International University in Iran as a faculty member. His research interests are in functional observers, state estimation, control theory and power systems. He received his PhD degree from the University of Western Australia in 2015. He is currently a lecturer in the University of Central Queensland

Dr. Jason Eshraghian

Former PhD Student

Jason K. Eshraghian received the LL.B & B. Eng, and Ph.D degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Western Australia, Perth, WA, Australia in 2016 and 2019, respectively. From 2015 to 2016, he was a Research Associate at Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, South Korea working on the Memristive Retina Project, and joined the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in 2019. His current research interests include memristive systems, neural network hardware acceleration, and neurostimulation. He was awarded the 2019 IEEE Very Large Scale Integration Circuits and Systems Best Paper Award, and the 2019 IEEE Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems Conference Best Paper Award, in recognition for his contributions to the field of neuromorphic computing. He is a member of the IEEE Neural Systems and Applications Technical Committee.

Hengdao Guo received his double Bachelor’s Degrees in 2012 from China University of Mining and Technology in Jiangsu, China and University of Kentucky in the United States, majoring in Electrical Engineering. He then obtained his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in University of Kentucky in 2014. He received his Ph.D. degree at University of Western Australia in 2020. Hengdao is now with Electric Power Research Institute of China Southern Power Grid. His research interests are in power system analysis and renewable energy.

Nestor Vazquez received his Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Master's degree in Intelligent Systems from the Monterrey Institute of Technology, Mexico in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2021, where he is currently a Research Engineer. His research interests are in embedded systems, smart grids and optimization algorithms.

Dr. Samson Shenglong Yu

Former PhD Student

Samson S. Yu, received the Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Distinction and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, Western Australia, Australia, in 2014 and 2017, respectively. After that, he joined PACE research group at UWA as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. In 2019, he joined the Deakin University, where he is currently a Lecturer in the School of Engineering. His research interests include renewable energy integration and forecasting, power system analysis and control, smart grids, microgrid modeling, demand response, and dynamic state estimation. Dr. Yu received the first and second prizes in IEEE Australia Council Paper Competition in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

Her current research interests are in nonlinear circuit dynamics, memristive systems and micro-grids.
